霧峰林家宮保第園區 – 第三進[英文 English]

The third section is located after the second section and represents the middle segment of the “five-section, eleven-bay” layout. It serves as one of the core living areas of the mansion. Compared with the first two sections, the third section places greater emphasis on residential use and family activities, functioning as an important space for daily life, entertaining guests, and internal family rituals.
This part of the mansion was also expanded and renovated by Lin Chao-tung during the Tongzhi to Guangxu periods, maintaining a consistent architectural style with the preceding sections.

Layout and Function: The third section, as the mansion’s central courtyard, primarily supports family daily life and formal gatherings.

Architectural Details: The eaves, wood carvings, window lattices, and stone decorations are all finely crafted, preserving a large number of traditional Chinese craftsmanship elements.

Spatial Design: The central axis is clearly defined, with side wings (hùlóng) extending on both sides, creating a continuous courtyard with a strong sense of depth.

The third section represents the core of household life. Through the design of the courtyard and buildings, it reflects the family order and social status of the Lin family during the Qing Dynasty.
